Surf Bagel & Deli - Lewes, DE

Peter and I stopped here for breakfast last week after an overnight stay in Lewes, DE. I had read great reviews on TripAdvisor where Surf Bagel is rated #2 of 77 restaurants in Lewes. I also checked Yelp and Urban Spoon and both sites echoed similar reviews.

I could tell as we pulled up that this place was going to live up to it's name. It was Wednesday morning (in March) and this place was hopping! As soon as we got inside, we were greeted by the sweetest cashier who took our order. The selection was huge, but we had seen the "we have scrapple" sign on the chalkboard outside, and being the scrapple fans that we are, both ordered the Scrapple, Egg, & Cheese on a plain bagel.
We grabbed a couple of Starbucks® Bottled Frappuccino® Coffees and a bottle of juice, paid for our food and found a seat. We were called in a matter of minutes and boy did the food live up to it's name.

We will definitely return to Surf Bagel and can't wait to try a few more of their specialties.

Their menu includes a variety of bagels (I just read about the coconut bagel-yum!), spreads, hot bagel sandwiches, wraps, subs, and salads.

Check out their website for full menu and more about Surf Bagel and Deli!

Stuffed Mushrooms (Olive Garden copycat)

I picked up some nice mushrooms a few days ago with a recipe in mind.
I had Olive Garden's Stuffed Mushrooms when Peter and I ordered take-out on Valentine's Day (post here). They were soooo good, I just had to give them a try at home. I found the copycat recipe online and made them for dinner tonight.

Stuffed Mushrooms
(an Olive Garden copycat recipe)

Ingredients:

8-12 fresh mushrooms - remove stems/wipe off with a damp paper towel

6 clams - minced/drained-reserve 1/4 cup juice
(you can substitute a 6 oz. can if you can't get fresh clams)

2 T. minced onion
(recipe calls for green onion, but I substituted)

1/2 t. minced garlic
(I always use minced garlic in a jar)
1/8 t. garlic salt

1 T. melted butter

1 t. oregano

1/2 cup Italian-style bread crumbs

Don't you love these Pier1 measuring cups? Hand-me-downs from Mom. I love odd measuring cups! :O)

Okay, back to the recipe......

1 egg- beaten

2 T. grated parmesan
1 T. grated romano
2 T. grated mozzarella

I actually substitued and used what I had on hand - 3 T. grated fresh parmesan and 1 T. grated parmesan in a canister for the stuffing.

1/4 cup melted butter

1/4 cup grated mozzarella (I used swiss since I had it on hand)

parsely - for garnish

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly spray baking dishes with pan spray.
  • Remove stems from mushrooms and wipe off with a damp paper towel.
  • Combine clams, onion, garlic, garlic salt, butter, and oregano in a bowl and mix well.
  • Add bread crumbs, egg, and clam juice mixing together well.
  • Add cheese to stuffing and mix well.
  • Spoon stuffing into each mushroom cap and slightly mound.
  • Place stuffed mushrooms into baking dishes and drizzle with 1/4 cup melted butter. (I also topped with a little swiss)
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes.
Grate a little fresh parmesan on top and garnish with parsely.

so you wanna start a food blog....

I have been part of the blogging world since 2011 when I started my first blog, The Secret To Having It All. It's my journal, filled with posts about my family, my home, travel, cooking, DIY-ing, and all of my favorite things. I noticed that many of my posts are food related since I love to cook (and eat). I am always sharing recipes, as well as restaurant reviews. I love reading food blogs and have always wanted to have one of my own. While my regular blog will always be my first priority, I am excited about launching a second blog dedicated to one of my favorite topics. I don't claim to be a food expert, but I think it will be fun to share my cooking (and eating) adventures with other foodies.

[all of my posts will be my opinion only and I am not being paid by any company or individual for the reviews I give.]

So here goes.....my very first post on my very own food blog!
