Back Street Grill - Salisbury, MD

We had lunch last week at Back Street Grill in Salisbury, MD. It's the sister restaurant to Riverside Grill in Pocomoke. Home of the "build your own" sandwich, amongst a huge variety of other delicious menu choices. We chose burgers, which were cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious! Peter chose the Seafood Jambalaya and I got the Cream of Crab Soup. Both were out-of-this-world good!!

About:

Mark & Leslie Reeves bought their first restaurant, Market Street Inn, in 1989 where our build-your-own style of menu became popular. These owner/operators took a brief break from the restaurant business from 2001 to 2007 to raise their children. They opened Back Street Grill in November of 2007, which they are still successfully operating and the customers enjoy the original check-off style menu and daily specials. We also have a sister restaurant, Riverside Grill, on the water in downtown Pocomoke City, MD. Our mid-town location and homemade food provide a comfortable atmosphere to socialize with friends and family.

Hilda Crockett's Chesapeake House - Tangier Island, VA

In 1939, Hilda Crockett began her business providing home-cooked meals and lodging to visitors to Tangier Island. Her reputation for good food, warm hospitality and comfortable lodging were the secret to building a business that would continue for many years to come. She served thousands over the years - people coming from all over the world to eat her famous, home cooked, "family style" meals. Mrs. Crockett's three daughters later took over the Chesapeake House, until 2003, when natives Denny and Glenna Crockett, bought the business, carrying on the tradition of serving the same delicious home cooked food.

The Chesapeake House is an 8 room inn as well. Both dinner and breakfast are included in the room rates. Click on the website link for information on an overnight stay on the island.

Grilled Soft Shell Crabs

Normally, we deep fry soft shell crabs, but a friend told me about cooking them on the grill, so we gave her recipe a try!

Line a grill pan with foil, brush the foil with olive oil. Put crabs on tray then drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with Old Bay, salt, and pepper.

Grill on low heat, turning once.

YUM!!

Yellow Squash and Onions [on the grill]

Brush a foil pan with olive oil. Slice squash and onion and put in pan. Drizzle with olive oil and put a few pats of butter on top. Sprinkle with seasoned salt and pepper. Cook on medium heat. Turn frequently with tongs until tender.

Bang Bang Shrimp with Pasta

An easy, creamy Bang Bang Shrimp w/ Pasta recipe.

Sauce

1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup Thai sweet chili sauce
2 teaspoons minced garlic
juice of 1/2 lime
1 teaspoon Sriracha
pinch of crushed red pepper flakes

Whisk together and set aside.

Pasta

8 ounces pasta (I used fettuccine)

In a large pot, cook pasta according to package directions; drain well.

Shrimp

8 ounces medium shrimp, peeled and deveined (I used a 12 ounce bag of shrimp)
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 teaspoons minced garlic
1 teaspoon smoked paprika (I used regular paprika)
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper - to taste
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Place shrimp onto a baking sheet. Add olive oil, garlic, paprika, salt and pepper, and gently toss to combine. Place into oven and roast just until pink, firm and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes. Remove from oven and set aside.

In a large bowl, combine pasta, shrimp and mayonnaise mixture.

Serve immediately, garnished with parsley.

Market Street Inn - Salisbury, MD

Yesterday, Peter and I had a fun day (well, the part about getting our taxes done wasn't all that much fun), but a fun day - shopping, running errands, and a lunch date. We go to Salisbury, MD several times throughout the year and pretty much always eat at the same places: Panera or Olive Garden for lunch and Texas Roadhouse or Outback for dinner. I had checked out TripAdvisor, Yelp, and Urban Spoon for Salisbury restaurant reviews and saw several that looked really good. I mentioned to Peter that we should branch out a bit and try more new places. Peter was on board, and since we were headed to Salisbury for the day yesterday, why not get started on the list?

We chose Market Street Inn and what a great choice it was!

It's a pub/restaurant - we chose the restaurant where there is plenty of indoor seating, and a huge deck outside as well. It was way too cold for lunch on the deck, so I chose the next best thing, a table with a view.

The entire menu looked good, but I ended up ordering one of the lunch specials: a seafood wrap - crab salad with huge pieces of shrimp, a side of Miss Flo's mac & cheese, and a caesar salad. The seafood salad was delish! The crab meat was very fresh. Very tasty! The mac & cheese and salad were good too!

Peter chose the Reuben Sandwich - Slow-roasted corned beef, Swiss cheese and sauerkraut on thick sliced rye with 1000 island dressing and mac & cheese as well for his side. He also got a garden salad with Raspberry Walnut Vinaigrette. He raved about the sandwich!

We will definitely return again, next time for dinner - the menu sounds amazing!

Striper Bites - Lewes, DE

During an overnight birthday get-away in Lewes, DE a few weeks ago, we had a chance to have dinner at Striper Bites. I had read tons of restaurant reviews before going, and after narrowing it down to a few that looked really good, I chose Striper Bites for my birthday dinner.

I love the decor and the atmosphere there, and the service was very good.

Peter ordered the Seared Tuna app....
Seared rare with sesame 5-spice crust over crispy wontons, served with spicy mayo, seaweed salad, wasabi, pickled ginger, & soy glaze

For his entree', he chose the special of the day from the fresh fish board:

Blackened Halibut w/Lemon Butter Buerre Blanc and mashed potatoes and salad.

He said everything was delicious!

I decided on the Crab Bisque, which was very good.....

and I knew I was going to get the Lobster Roll before we ever got there.
I had one at Boardwalk Bakery in WDW last month that was out-of-this-world good and I was ready to try another. I also ordered my usual caesar salad.

While it was good, this lobster roll wasn't quite as good as the one I had in Disney....good....just not Disney good. Of course, we were too stuffed for dessert....next time maybe!

Overall, we were both pleased with our meal at Striper Bites and definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Lewes, DE.

Striper Bites is rated #11 of 79 restaurants by TripAdvisor.
